‘Digitalising communally owned land in the peripheries of Mexican metropolis’

DATE: 8 DECEMBER, 2023 | TIME: 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM (CST/ UTC-6)
VENUE: On-line workshop

This workshop endeavours to undertake a critical analysis and conceptualisation of the increasing integration of digital technologies in land governance within the periphery of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, with a specific focus on the Zapopan municipality. It operates under the premise that land, being a fundamental resource highly esteemed by the population, is confronted with persistent challenges in metropolitan peripheries, including inadequate property registration management, legal loopholes, and irregular marketing practices.

In response to these challenges, the three levels of government have, in recent years, embraced diverse digitisation processes. Nevertheless, the implementation of these processes encounters impediments—whether technical, financial, or political—that hinder their effectiveness for the governments and other territorial actors involved.

The primary objective of the workshop is to convene various stakeholders to delve into these challenges and, foremost, to address the overarching question: What are the urbanisation processes unfolding in the metropolitan periphery, and what potential impacts can digitisation and digitalisation bring to bear on territorial governance?
